Tiger Safari Tadoba

One of the most recent additions to the popular Tiger parks of India is Tadoba. Located about 110 kms from the city of Nagpur, Tadoba’s claim to fame are the excellent Tiger sightings. It won’t be wrong to call Tadoba the Tiger capital of India.

In addition to Tigers, Tadoba is also home to a decent population of Leopards and Indian Wild Dogs. Formerly a bird sanctuary, Tadoba is known for its variety in Avifauna as well.

The Park connects well to other wildlife reserves as well. Thus, one can combine their trip to Tadoba with Kanha and Pench as well, each at a 7 hour and 4 hour drive from the Park, respectively.

Densely forested hills form the northern and western boundary of the Tiger Reserve. The elevation of the hills ranges from 200 m (660 ft) to 350 m (1,150 ft). To the southwest is the 120 ha (300 acres) Tadoba lake which acts as a buffer between the park’s forest and the extensive farmland which extends up to Irai water reservoir. This lake is a perennial water source, offering an excellent habitat for Muggar crocodiles to thrive in. Other wetland areas within the reserve include the Kolsa Lake and Andhari River.

Tadoba reserve covers the Chimur Hills while the Andhari Sanctuary covers Moharli and Kolsa ranges. It’s enclosed on the northern and the western side by densely forested hills. Thick forests are relieved by smooth meadows and deep valleys as the terrain slopes from north to south. Cliffs, talus and caves provide refuge for several animals. The two forested rectangles are formed of Tadoba and Andhari range. The southern part of the park is less hilly.
