Birding in Gujarat Rajasthan Tour

The states of Rajasthan and Gujarat are unquestionably the pride of India for a reason. The tour in this land encompasses a few endemics and some endangered species of the region. Day 1 : Arrive New Delhi (By flight)

On arrival at the New Delhi airport, you will be received by our representative who will transfer you to your hotel and assist you with the check in procedure. He will also handover and brief you on all travel related documents. Overnight stay is at the hotel.

Day 2 : New Delhi – Chambal (285 Kms/4.5 hrs drive)

After breakfast, depart for Chambal (285 Km / 4.5 hrs). On arrival, check in at the lodge. After lunch leave for afternoon visit to Chambal river to see Gharials and Crocodiles. Some of the highlight species of birds we see here are Indian Skimmer, Bar-headed Goose, Ruddy Shelduck, Egyption Vulture, Black winged stilt, Black-bellied Terns, Red-crested and Ferruginous Pochards, Sarus Crane, Great Thick-knee, Indian Courser, Pallas's Fish Eagle, Laggar Falcon and many more. Get back to the lodge when the sun starts getting harsh.

Day 3 : Chambal

Morning and afternoon boat safari at the river. All meals and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 4 : Chambal – Bharatpur (125 Kms/3 hrs drive)

After breakfast, undertake another boat safari at the Chambal river. Later proceed to Bharatpur (125 Kms, 3 hrs). On arrival check into lodge. After lunch proceed for evening bird watching at Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary.

This diverse habitat is home to over 400 bird species, 379 floral species, 50 species of fish, 13 species of snakes, 5 species of lizards, 7 amphibian species, 7 turtle species, and a variety of other invertebrates. Every year, thousands of migratory waterfowl visit the park for the winter and to breed. The sanctuary is one of the richest bird areas in the world and is known for nesting of resident birds and visiting migratory birds. Dinner and overnight at the lodge in Bharatpur.

Day 5 and 6 : Bharatpur

Morning and afternoon birdwatching at Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. All meals and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 7 :Bharatpur – Jaipur (185 Kms/3.5 hrs drive)

Morning birding excursion at Bharatpur bird sanctuary. After lunch, drive to Jaipur (185 Km, 3.5 hrs). On arrival, check in at the hotel in Jaipur. Evening is free for leisure. Overnight stay at hotel in Jaipur.

Day 8 :Jaipur – Jaisalmer (558 Kms/10 hrs drive)

This morning after breakfast, checkout from the hotel and drive 11 km to the outskirts of the city to visit Amber Fort, the ancient capital of the State until 1728. Later, drive to Jaisalmer (558 Km, 10hrs). On arrival, check in at the hotel. Evening is free for leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel in Jaisalmer.

Day 9 :Jaisalmer

This morning after breakfast, visit some top tourist attraction like Jaisalmer fort, Patwon ki haveli and Gadisar lake. Later, before dusk, experience a camel safari on the sand dunes of The Great Indian Thar Desert. Overnight stay at the hotel in Jaisalmer.

Day 10 :Jaisalmer – Kheechan (175 Kms/3 hrs drive)

Wake up and experience the sunrise on a camel safari. Later, drive back to the hotel. Post breakfast, transfer to the hotel in Phalodi. On arrival, check in at the hotel. After lunch, depart for an afternoon birding in Keechan. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Phalodi.

Day 11 :Kheechan (Phalodi)

Early morning drive to Kheechan, where one can see large gatherings of Demoiselle and Common Cranes. The sight of these birds in a massive congregation is sure to be a memorable one. Other species to be seen here include, the Brown Rock Chat, which is endemic, the Variable Wheatear, Chestnut Bellied Sandgrouse, and the Greater Short-toed Lark.

Day 12 : Phalodi – Ahmedabad (575 Kms/10.5 hrs drive)

After an early breakfast, depart for Ahmedabad (574 Km/10 hrs). On arrival, check in at the hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel in Ahmedabad.

Day 13 :Ahmedabad – Little Rann of Kutch (170 Kms/4.5 hrs drive)

This morning after breakfast, checkout from the hotel. Drive to Little Rann of Kutch (170 Km 4.5 hrs). On arrival, check in at the lodge. After lunch, depart for an afternoon jeep safari. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 14 - 15 :Little Rann of Kutch (170 Kms/4.5 hrs drive)

Morning and afternoon jeep safari. All meals and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 16 : Little Rann of Kutch – Jamnagar (323 Kms/7.5 hrs drive)

Morning after early breakfast, drive towards Jamnagar (256 km takes around 5 Hrs). On arrival, check-in at the lodge. After lunch at the Lodge – Visit Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary.

This protected area packs in an incredible diversity of ecosystems into the relatively small area of 6 square km. The sanctuary, created over the 1920s and '30s, is formed from two man-made dykes that separate fresh water from sea water, creating the opportunity to simultaneously observe species that belong to each ecosystem, and some that share both.
